Can Outdoor Blinds Weatherproof Your Verandah Furniture?
Posted on: 30 August 2019
If you're lucky enough to have a verandah, then you already know how useful this outdoor space can be. This is an ideal open space in nice weather whether you're relaxing on your own with a good book or entertaining friends and family.
While the open nature of verandah space has its benefits, it also has some downsides. For example, you may have spent a fair amount of cash on a set of furniture you can use on the verandah. However, you're now worried that leaving the furniture in the open isn't such a good idea.
How can putting outdoor blinds around your verandah help?
Keep Your Furniture Dry
While your veranda's roof protects your outdoor furniture from above, the structure may not have any protection at the sides. Driving rain and snow can come on to your verandah from these areas and damage your furniture over time.
For example, if you have wicker seating, then it may need to be kept dry. If your furniture is getting a bit old and has lost some of its protective sealant, then your seats may start to turn mouldy or rot. You may see water stains on the seats and if you've bought painted furniture, then a cycle of dry and then wet conditions may affect the paint. It may peel away or crack as the wicker expands and contracts.
If you install outdoor blinds around the sides of your verandah, then you keep the weather out and your furniture dry. As long as the blinds you choose are made from a waterproof material or have a waterproofing treatment on them, then they act as a barrier between wet weather and your furniture.
Keep Your Furniture Looking Sharp
In an ideal world, you want your verandah furniture to last for years. While you might not mind buying new stuff when your old furniture wears out, you certainly don't want to have to buy a new set for no good reason.
If your verandah is open to the elements, then the sun might cause some cosmetic damage. It may fade your soft furnishings, for example. Wooden pieces will change colour in parts, turning lighter or even darker if the sun shines on them often enough.
So, your furniture may be structurally sound but it may lose its good looks. Outdoor blinds with UV protection keep furniture looking good by shielding it from harmful rays.
